There is a wide variety of fairies, though they all possess several similar traits and tendencies due to their mystic origins. Known Powers: Longevity: though they are not ageless beings like their fae ancestor(s), fairies are nonetheless long-lived. Possessing this power at Feeble (2) rank, fairies can live for a maximum lifespan of five hundred and sixty years, if circumstance doesn't catch up them first, per this formula: normal human lifespan (70) times power rank cubed (8) = eventual fairy lifespan (560 years) (.5 points) Shrinking: fairies are inherently tiny beings. They generally stand around four inches tall, thus possessing this power as a description of their diminutive stature, at Good (10) rank. This tends to make them difficult to combat, for they are hard to see! Possessing a -4 size factor, fairies gain a +4 CS modifier to hit human-sized opponents, though any damage they inflict upon such beings suffers a -4 CS penalty. Human-sized enemies attempting to harm a fairy do so with the inverse of these modifiers. (extremely limited, 1 point) Wings: their bestial ancestors have given modern fairies wings which allow them to fly, whether these wings resemble those possessed by a dragonfly, a butterfly, or even a bird of some kind. They allow fairies Poor (4) flight (60 miles per hour). (1 point) Schooling: Disciple / Faerie Magic: supplementing their inherent mystical powers, fairies all have an inherent knack for faerie magic. Fairies will spend at least ten points on their magical schooling, which gives them considerable versatility considering their character limitations. Fairies generally specialize in spells that give them the capabilities they prefer when dealing with others. Some will master growth magic to simulate the size of larger beings, while others will augment their flight abilities, and still more specialize in manipulative magics. Limitations / Enhancements: Susceptibility to Iron: in addition to the weakness they suffer in the face of iron, fairies are highly susceptible to physical harm from it. Attacks with iron are effectively Armor Ignoring to fairies, and always inflict at least one quarter of their total health in damage. This is a strong character limitation. Weakness to Iron: fairies are famously weakened by the mere touch of this metal. When in physical contact with iron, their attributes drop to Feeble (2) in rank, they cannot cast spells or wield their other powers, and suffer from excruciating pain. This is a strong character limitation. Equipment: (none) Quirks: Magical Aptitude: part and parcel of the strange heritage of the fae, fairies have a natural ability to master the sorcery of their ancestors. This trait allows fairy spellcasters a +1 CS on all ACTION rolls called for while casting spells, save for when determining damage. Talents: Lore: thanks to their inherent spellcasting ability, most fairies are exposed to obscure mystical knowledge when taught how to hone this potential. As such, they may add a +1 CS to any Reason ACTION roll required of them when answering questions about such matters. Contacts: Fairies have no inherent contacts, even among their own kind. These beings are possessed of a startlingly different ethical base, one that most humans have a hard time wrapping their heads around. They can develop contacts, to be sure, but don't have any just beacuse of who they are. Characteristics: While fairies are ostensibly from earth, their mindset is utterly alien to most beings from our world. The best description of fairy ethics is 'sociopathy', for their concerns are primarily centered on what they want and what others can do for them. They care about little else. Appearance: Fairies have the same proportions as an ordinary human, and would be indistinguishable from them save for their stature and their wings. Some fairies diverge from normal human appearances further, however, taking on additional traits of the creature they take their wings from. Ecological Niche: As is the case with all hybrid entities resulting from the indiscretions of the fae, fairies are not the product of any natural process. They are bizarre chimeras of fae, human, and animal, and cheerfully do as they wish regardless of the consequences to anything around them. History: Fairies are an artificial breed of chimeric beings. They came about due to the indiscriminate lust of the fae, extraplanar entities with the capability to pass their traits along to any other creature, a tendency that sticks for several generations at the very least. While some of these initial fae hybrids stabilized in different fashions, those which ultimately became fairies mainly resemble human beings, albeit with a vastly smaller stature. They also carry traits of at least one form of animal, whether butterfly, dragonfly, or bird of some kind. While visually similar to human beings, fairies couldn't be farther from these forebears behaviorally. Possessing alien mores resembling those of their fae ancestors, fairies alternate between the most homicidal of maniacs and wormiest of politicians, depending on their mood. This rarely endears them with others they meet, much like the fae themselves, and as a result fairies are wildly unpopular with other beings, not to mention each other. This often causes them to be blamed for all manner of atrocities, whether warranted or not, by their neighbors. This generally suits most fairies just fine, save for those that have discovered the concept of empathy - and don't find it to be a foolish enterprise. These fairies get along with others just fine for the most part, but must fight an uphill battle to earn the trust of others.
