Whether issuing forth from the Chaos or some other plane of reality altogether, fae are potent magic entities who have spread themselves across the multiverse! Known Powers: Agelessness: while they aren't immortal, fae are incredibly difficult to kill off. The laundry list of abilities that allow them to alter their physical nature make this nigh-impossible. Of course, they reproduce so infrequently that the death of each fae is a great loss to their kind. Not that most fae actually care. At any rate, these creatures do not age as we understand it, likely not doing so at all. But then again, as often as their very composition changes, fae bodies are presumably refreshed to a new state every time they alter themselves. (6 points) Animal Hybridization / Self: supplementing their shape changing ability, this power lets fae take on the specific traits of animal life, on top of their basic form. Fae may adopt the powers of the animals they've chosen with Remarkable (30) ability, greatly bolstering their flattery. Furthermore, most fae have been around for a very long time, and have thus mastered the simulation of all manner of animals with it. Whether humans or snakes or eagles, fae can generally copy the powers of most conventional animals, though fantastic fauna may elude them. (2 points) Dimensional Transit: as much as their body shifts its composition, form, and nature, fae often fall clean out of whatever universe they're currently occupying. They have the ability to cross the dimensions with Remarkable (30) ability, letting them find specific realms easily enough. Though this power can be controlled consciously, it is almost always waiting to function, often causing fae to slip out of their current plane of existence whenever their concentration is sorely tested. Such tests range from extreme distraction to being knocked unconscious. (2 points) Growth / Self: in addition to their ability to shrink, fae can drastically increase their volume at will. Possessing this ability at Remarkable (30) rank, fae can expand their size by up to eight times, reaching a maximum diameter of forty-eight feet, give or take a foot. This provides a fae at this volume a +3 size factor, which allows them a +3 CS to the damage they inflict against human-sized opponents, though they suffer a -3 CS to hit them in the first place. Human-sized enemies combat enlarged fae using the inverse of these modifiers. (2 points) Plant Hybridization / Self: supplementing their shape changing ability, this power lets fae take on the specific traits of botanical life, on top of their basic form. Fae may adopt the powers of the plants they've chosen with Remarkable (30) ability, greatly bolstering their imitation. Furthermore, most fae have been around forever, and have thus mastered the simulation of all manner of plants with it. Whether trees or bushes or grasses, fae can generally copy the powers of most conventional plants, though fantastic flora may elude them. (2 points) Shape Change: their principal ability, fae are consummate shape changers. Unless they are explicitly maintaining their current form for whatever reason, which fae can do with Amazing (50) skill and accuracy, a fae's shape tends to shift and flow ceaselessly. This power often drafts a fae's other abilities to modify their form in their base state, their volume and composition shifting along with their seemingly formless shape. Fae tend to inflict confusion and terror in those who behold them due to this endless alteration. (4 points) Shrinking / Self: in addition to being able to increase their size at will, fae can reduce their volume by a considerable amount. They may do this with Unearthly (100) ability, shrinking down until they are barely visible, being just over one sixteenth of an inch in diameter. When so small, a fae has a size factor of -10. This means human-sized opponents suffer a -10 CS penalty to strike them, but if they can hit, these opponents can inflict +10 CS damage. When fighting human-sized enemies, fae do so using the reverse of these modifiers. (6 points) Transformation / Self: fae not only have the ability to alter their shape, they can change their composition as well! Extremely enhanced, this power lets them shift their very make-up between their base, somewhat organic state, to virtually any other they desire. This can be a homogenous solid, liquid, gaseous, or even energetic mass, whether mundane or fantastic in character. They can do this with Excellent (20) ability, and can even force their bodies to partially adopt multiple forms of matter or energy at will. (10 points) Schooling: Faerie Magic: strongly magical entities, fae generally sling spells with the best of them. They're such potent thaumaturges that their casting ability has been codified into an entire school of magic, one that magicians around the multiverse are familiar with. Fae most often place whatever points they don't dedicate to talents or contacts in their magic. As described here, that's currently ten points, though even if less are utilized, their dual strong character limitations greatly amplify the capability of their faerie spells. Limitations / Enhancements: Susceptibility to Iron: in addition to the weakness they suffer in the face of iron, fae are highly susceptible to physical harm from it. Attacks with iron are effectively Armor Ignoring to fae, and always inflict at least one quarter of their total health in damage. This is a strong character limitation. Weakness to Iron: fae are famously weakened by the mere touch of this metal. When in physical contact with iron, their ability scores drop to Feeble (2) in rank, they cannot cast spells or wield their other powers, and suffer from excruciating pain. This is a strong character limitation. Equipment: (none) Quirks: Magical Aptitude: probability warps around fae constantly, and most of them are adept in shaping it somewhat to their will. This trait allows fae sorcerers a +1 CS on all ACTION rolls called for while casting spells, save for when determining their damage. Talents: Strictly speaking, fae have no talents that are common to all their kind. Despite their agelessness, fae often lack the kind of concentration required to master an actual skill, but that doesn't mean it's impossible for them. Choose your fae's talents, if any, normally. Contacts: The fae have no inherent contacts as a species, even amongst their own kind. Fae are too chaotic to have any sort of internal cohesion amongst themselves, and are so violently selfish that they have extreme difficulty making actual friends. They can, of course, but not automatically. Characteristics: Fae behavior is as chaotic as their ostensible physiology, and a given fae is as likely to converse with a body as they are to kill and eat them! Their actions rely on what a given fae wants from someone, which may change from moment to moment based on their interactions. Appearance: In their natural form, fae appear to be shimmering blobs of matter, energy, or thought - possibly all three at once! Constantly changing shape, color, and composition, they warble through reality with distressing ease, considering they seem like they shouldn't even exist. Ecological Niche: While they may have been natural creatures wherever they came into being, fae definitely aren't such where they invariably travel to. These beings drift across the multiverse, sowing their oats and their chaos everywhere they travel, permanently disrupting ecosystems across creation. Story: The origins of the fae are as mysterious as their very existence, which defies causality as we know it. Inherently chaotic beings, the very nature of a fae changes from moment to moment, shifting from the material to the energetic to the conceptual - or some combination therein. Despite only partially and/or occasionally possessing the characteristics of conventional life forms, fae are consummately curious beings, and cheerfully explore all aspects of life as they encounter it. This may involve conversing with it, eating it, or even mating with it. And that last pastime is what the fae are infamous for. Few individuals have ever met a fae, at least while living to tell the tale, but many have met someone or something descended from them. And that's because fae have a contagious ability to interbreed with almost anthing. These ceaseless indiscretions have prompted the genesis of all maner of hybrids and chimeras, for their ability to pass their traits down through almost anything is retained for at least several generations. And these crossbreeds often share the inexplicable appetites of the fae. This is one reason folks often confuse fae with fairies. Not only are their names similar, but fairy behavior is almost as inexplicable as that of the fae. Fairies can develop empathy, however, while fae cannot. Fae can rarely see beyond what they want or what amusement a body offers them. Fairies are but one example of the things fae have inflicted on the multiverse, though. Inherent dimension travelers, fae can be encountered anywhere, which means entities descended from them can as well. And the weirder a universe they travel to, the stranger their offspring!
